What will you be doing in this role?

The Dietitian Practice Coordinator is an expert practitioner who researches and directs complex specialized nutrition care in the acute care setting. The role coordinates, organizes, and tracks nutrition-related research designs. Results and any protocol or practice changes are shared at local and national conferences and within the medical community. This role acts as a resource and change agent for the health care team, and who demonstrates autonomy, foresight, and accountability. Performs as an expert in professional skills and abilities. Leads and mentors the clinical team with motivation, creativity, and a commitment to strengthening the profession and the clinical nutrition program at Cedars-Sinai.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engages in relevant evidenced based nutrition practice related research by participating in literature review, published research and/or presentation at a recognized regional or national conference. Promotes research through alliances and collaboration with dietetics and other professionals and organizations.
  • With leadership, applies research findings to practice setting, in accordance with regulatory guidelines. In collaboration with leadership, presents findings to cross functional teams and participates in any protocol changes.
  • Interfaces with interdisciplinary teams to gather information on the research parameters and topic.
  • Leads and designs quality assessment and performance improvement projects and regularly reports metrics to appropriate leadership. Significantly contributes to the content of policies and procedures, workflows, and practice guidelines. Takes initiative to identify and act on quality and improvement issues.
  • Takes a leadership role in committees, drives results and is instrumental in raising the bar on practice. Collaborates with physicians in developing and participating in medical staff training programs. Participates in local and national activities to enrich the profession.
  • Works with department leadership, staff, and health care team members to effectively problem solve and achieve high-quality patient care. Maintains current knowledge of and follows legislation and licensure
  • Leads interprofessional activities and functions as a clinical advocate for expansion of nutrition and dietetic services by developing, applying and promoting best practice, standards, policies and protocols. requirements.
  • Acts independently as a preceptor and evaluator for student RD/RDN/DTR training programs. Oversees student projects as needed. Mentors and acts as a resource for new RD/RDN/DTRs as well as less experienced clinicians.
  • Supports development of team by fostering a safe culture of learning, teamwork, and excellence by utilizing effective and respectful communication and conflict resolution.
