Technical Manager - Core Lab - Full Time - Evenings

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine participates in the care of virtually every Cedars-Sinai Medical Center patient, using the most sophisticated methods for making accurate diagnoses in all areas of anatomic and clinical pathology. In addition, the department provides expert consultation services to the outside community. Our expert pathologists and clinical scientists are committed to improving precision medicine approaches, advancing basic science and translational research, and providing excellent training and education.

 

Essential Job Summary:

The Technical Manager has direct responsibility for the supervision of a Pathology and Laboratory Medicine department – Core Laboratory. In this capacity, the Technical Manager is responsible for the organization of work, supervision of employees, staff development, expense control, quality assurance, process improvement and problem solving in the delivery of services and related programs within the division.  Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the developmental issues of the patient population(s) served.

Educational Requirements
Baccalaureate Degree with ASCP Board of Registry specialist certification or a Masters degree in a biological science, chemistry or medical technology, or equivalent education and experience.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements
California Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist License (License Prefix - MTA) required, MT(ASCP) / MLS(ASCP) preferred.

Experience
Five years of relevant clinical experience. Experience in supervision and teaching of residents and CLS students, as well as professional involvement such as membership on committees, publication of papers and presentation of conferences, desirable. Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians and other customers of the Medical Center. Full command (verbal and written) of the English language. Experience in QA, QC, PI, CAP proficiency test reporting & evaluation, new instrument and test method validations, biannual correlations, AMRs and annual coagulation reagent validation. Experience with Sunquest LIS instrument interfaces, auto-verification and file maintenance a plus.

Physical Demands
Frequent sitting and standing; occasional walking and bending; occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds for distances to 10 feet.
Frequent use of computer keyboards, monitors and telephones.
Responsiveness to auditory alarms and communication devices including: telephones, beepers, fire alarms, mechanical failure alarms.
Visual acuity acceptable for performing duties of this position.
Sufficient mobility to access equipment, patients and other customers.
