What you will be doing in this role:

As a member of the Community Engagement team, the Senior Program Officer (SPO) will further the work of the Community Benefit Giving Office (CBGO), which is designed to centralize all community giving for Cedars-Sinai and maximize its impact across Los Angeles.

The Senior Program Officer (SPO) reports to the Director. Will primarily be responsible for implementing, coordinating and administering multiple grant programs within Cedars-Sinai CBGO’s Social Determinants of Health grantmaking portfolio as well as the development of new grantmaking programs and/or initiatives. Will oversee key processes to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of Cedars-Sinai’s grantmaking. In addition, will serve as the primary liaison for portfolio-related activities alongside government relations and marketing. Will also conduct analysis and develop presentations at the direction of the Director. Manages relationships with key grantees and supports the office during intake of key requests from prospective grantees.

Will ensure grantee compliance and efficient management of grants processing. Responsible for developing request for proposals and other strategic giving mechanisms that help build capacity for nonprofit partners in Cedars-Sinai’s community benefit service area. With oversight from the Director, this individual is responsible for the recruitment and implementation of grant-funded programs related to the Social Determinants of Health portfolio, with a specific emphasis on homelessness and housing as well as economic stability and workforce development.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to multitask on a variety of projects and handle competing pressures well. Comfortable with the ambiguity inherent in grantmaking, intellectually curious, and willing and able to offer constructive recommendations. The SPO must have strong analytical skills, independent judgment, and a track record of executing high-caliber work, while exhibiting diplomacy and a collaborative spirit.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee the grantmaking budget, project management, and management of assigned portfolio(s); lead relevant analyses in support of decision-making for grantmaking; Review proposals submitted for consideration within the assigned portfolio(s)

  • Develop and execute outreach; Conduct site visits; Conduct interviews with potential grantees; Develop funding recommendations for CBGO leadership based on requesting organization’s alignment with Cedars-Sinai’s values, institutional priorities & funding strategies
  • Coordinate assessment & analysis of grants made within assigned portfolio(s)
  • Manage all aspects of grant programs including grant program oversight, grant application/proposal review and processing, coordination of grant review committee, grantee compliance, and grant program benchmarking
  • Pursue opportunities to deepen portfolio efforts through a variety of methods other than grantmaking such as convenings, technical assistance, serving on committees and task forces, etc.
  • Keep current on issues of importance to the assigned portfolio by literature review, contact with social and professional communities, and participating in relevant conferences/convenings; Lead and/or facilitate new local convenings related to portfolio(s)
  • Manage relationship development among internal stakeholders, grantees, and prospective community partners; Develop and foster relationships with grantee partners in the grantmaking community to further the efforts of Cedars-Sinai’s community benefit mission;Steward relationships with relevant internal partners
  • Communicate with grant applicants and grantees and serve as the CBGO’s principal contact with grantees funded within the assigned portfolio
  • Alongside the Director, lead the CBGO in special projects requiring analysis and/or presentation; Design and execute program monitoring process for grants and special projects

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree required. Masters Degree preferred
  • 5 years professional experience in an academic, foundation, non-profit, or corporate environment with solid understanding of evaluation principles and best practices; Non-profit leadership and grantmaking experience preferred
