The Institute for Research on Health Aging conducts multi-disciplinary research that prioritizes the prevention of cardiovascular disease, neurocognitive disease, and cancer. Our focus is on translating new research discoveries into pragmatic interventions aimed at promoting healthy aging across diverse populations. Our approach involves human physiology, cohort, and clinical trial studies and our team includes established experts in population, clinical, translational, basic, and data science.


Our Research Grant Specialist II will work with Institute investigators to complete and submit federal and non- federal grants and serves as the liaison between the Institute leadership and the offices of research administration, human resources, research compliance, accounting and finance, and other research related departments. You will be regarded as the Team Lead for all pre- and post- NIH and other grant award administrative functions, including management of internal documents, monitoring grant accounts, tracking all expenses, providing grant and financial reconciliations, and generating research-related financial reporting. Ensures compliance with all internal policies and procedures, federal and local agency requirements including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and local Institutional Review Board. Importantly, the successful candidate will participate in not only team building activities, but also formal and informal training opportunities designed to promote cross-areas skills development and personal career growth in preparation for further leadership roles.


Additional duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform all Pre and Post award administrative functions.
  • Ensures internal documents are prepared and routed for signature and processing.
  • Monitors Time & Effort for accurate reporting and performs necessary funding corrections via direct cost transfer requests.
  • Responsible for grant close out.
  • May assist with research participant billing.
  • Ensures compliance with internal policies and procedures, all federal and local agencies including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and local Institutional Review Board.
  • Maintains research practices using Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations and applicable law.
  • Participates in required training and education programs.
  • Collaborates closely with Institute investigators to complete and submit federal and non-federal research grants. May serve as Team Lead for generating or revising certain component sections of grant applications.
  • Leads or assists with all pre- and post- NIH grants award administrative functions.
  • Serves as a liaison between Institute leadership and the offices of research administration, human resources, research compliance, accounting and finance, and other research related departments.
  • Monitors grant accounts, tracks all expenses, provides grant and financial reconciliations, and generates research-related financial reporting.
  • Develops and implements procedures for ensuring research and grants compliance with all institutional administrative regulations, procedures, and policies.
  • Identifies new research funding opportunities.
  • May negotiate budgets for clinical studies including clinical trials.

Educational Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree required
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field is preferred

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

  • Specialty research certification preferred


  • Three to five (3-5) years minimum experience in administration of research grants, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work extremely well as part of large or small multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and software applications quickly.
  • Outstanding organization skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
