The Biomedical Imaging Research Institute (BIRI) is a multidisciplinary imaging research department with scientists and physicians who develop novel ways to advance imaging technology so that diseases of the heart, brain, and cancers could be diagnosed, managed and treated better than ever before. 

BIRI is seeking a magnetic resonance (MR) Physicist with MR pulse sequence programming experience to join our team of researchers, imaging scientists, and physicians to support the technical development of the cutting-edge research in our institute. The MR Physicists will have a Research Associate III role within Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, BIRI.

Under general guidance, the Administrative Research Associate III works closely with PI, providing technical support in large or multi-project oriented labs.  May be requested by PI to take on specific supervisory activities and technical expertise.  May develop hypothesis and assist in planning steps for the investigative process.  Will review and remain current on literature as it relates to clinical/research study and creating independent presentations.  Not responsible for generating grant funds.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides miscellaneous clinical/research support (ad hoc data analysis, hypothesis development, programming, troubleshooting, etc.).  
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with safety standards and procedures.  
  • Analyzes data and prepares scientific findings for publication as author or co-author.  
  • May make independent presentations.  
  • May provide system administration and maintenance for the local workstation network.  
DEPARTMENT AND/OR UNIT SPECIFIC – ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The MR Physicist will work as part of a collaborative team of researchers, imaging scientists, and physicians. The ideal candidate will be familiar with MR physics and pulse sequence development and testing on the Siemens and Bruker scanners. The MR physicist will build a library of pulse sequences, converting and maintaining of our research techniques across different vendors and software versions
  • Knowledge of magnetic resonance pulse sequences.
  • Experience programming pulse sequences on Siemens and/or Bruker scanners
  • Programming in C++ or similar computer languages
  • Experience with MATLAB, or similar scripting language
  • Strong interest in contributing to science
  • Ability to learn quickly
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree, required.  Master of Science or PhD Degree, preferred - MS or PhD in Magnetic Resonance Physics or related field
  • Any combination of academic education, professional training or work experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties required for the position.

Experience:
  • Has technical skills and expertise in an area of study including, but not limited to, Cardiovascular, Cancer, Neuroscience, Medical Imaging, Engineering. Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, PowerPoint).  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent organization skills and very detail-oriented; learns new tasks quickly; self-motivated; works well independently with minimal supervision; works well with others, and able to multitask.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with peers, patients, physicians, and other customers of the medical center. 
  • Thorough technical and theoretical understanding of PI’s research objectives.  Mastery of complex or unusual technical procedures and protocols.  
  • Ability to research, develop and implement research protocols.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 5lbs or more. Must be able to walk throughout the medical center. Must be able to sit for an extended period. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach overhead and or above the shoulders.
