The Theodorescu Laboratory focuses on identifying clinically relevant oncogenic drivers or suppressors of tumor growth and metastasis and translating this knowledge into biomarkers and therapies useful in implementing precision cancer medicine. The Theodorescu Lab has a broad background in cellular and molecular biology, in vivo models of cancer and translational cancer research, including work with human tissues and clinical trials. More specifically, the lab has expertise in bioinformatics and prognostic and predictive biomarker development as well as drug discovery and development.

Working under supervision, the Research Associate II performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects. Position involves performing a variety of routine molecular and cell biology techniques including, but not limited to western blotting, DNA/RNA preps, PCR, and cell culture, preparation of buffers and media, mouse and human tissue processing, mouse handling, and regulatory compliance applications.
The Research Associate II will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, to include, but not limited to; investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and report findings. The Associate will observe and comply with safety standards and procedures, assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of experimental protocols and procedures and assist in the design of protocols and techniques.
Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments, results, and assist in troubleshooting of unexpected technical obstacles.
Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations.
Maintains lab equipment and related records and may coordinate use of lab equipment.
Assists in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.
Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.
Helps maintain the laboratory under regulatory compliance.
Orients research laboratory assistants or lower level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.
May serve as the laboratory safety officer, attending monthly research laboratory safety representative meetings and reporting back to the laboratory information that was shared at the monthly meetings, ensuring laboratories are following safety guidelines and processes.
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree in biological sciences required
- 2 years of laboratory or related research experience required.
- Understanding of general research objectives.
- Familiar with routine cell biology laboratory procedures (e.g. PCR, molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, making buffers), and overall lab organization.
- Applicant must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Must have superior interpersonal, communication and organization skills and the ability to work across company disciplines and functional units.
- Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.
- Ability to simultaneously manage tasks in support of multiple members of the laboratory and attention to details.
- Must have an eagerness to learn and utilize criticism to facilitate personal/professional growth.
- Must have experience working with mice.
- Ability to function in a team environment and use interpersonal skills to communicate effectively.
