Registered Nurse IV - Medical Surgical - GI

The Medical Surgical Department of GI, 5SW inpatient has an exciting position available for a Registered Nurse IV, 12hrs Nights.

5SW is integrated with General medical/surgical services and the Department of Medicine to provide quality care to adult medicine patients who are acutely ill with a spectrum of diagnoses related to GI diseases and in varying stages of recuperation from diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical interventions to benefit the patient in order to return to an optimal state of health. In addition, 5SW cares for a number of other general medical patients with a variety of respiratory, neurological, infectious, renal and endocrine diseases. The range of service is as follows: Monitoring and observation of renal patients requiring therapeutic procedures such as Endoscopy, Colonoscopy and Paracentesis, Care of respiratory isolation patients Care and support of patients with chronic GI diseases currently experiencing acute episodes such as bleeding, Caregiver education and support.

An interdisciplinary approach to care is provided by Nursing, Medicine, Social Services, Dietary, Pharmacy, Case Management, Metabolic Support, Rehabilitation Therapies and other disciplines as needed. Patient care needs are identified through interdisciplinary assessment, team care planning and the patient classification system. Patients who require a higher level of care are transferred to either a cardiac monitoring unit or to an Intensive Care unit.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:
The Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse IV, as an expert professional practitioner, assumes responsibility and accountability for the expert application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care. She/he consistently demonstrates professional skills and abilities, utilizes her/his knowledge base and exemplary leadership and educational skills to direct and supervise the clinical performance of others in the role of collegial consultant and resource person. She/he demonstrates motivation and creativity and serves as a catalyst for effective changes within Nursing at the unit, service line and institutional levels. The Clinical Nurse IV provides nursing care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care. The Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, CSMC Code of Conduct, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan and Professional Organizations Standards. She/he maintains competency skills including the ability to provide care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. He/she can identify the ability of patients to follow directions/instructions and give consent. He/she can identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide a safe environment; and provide appropriate assessment, intervention and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones.

Qualification Requirements/Preferences:
Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational, Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirments:
-B.S.N. from an accredited school of nursing.
-Current and valid registered nurse license from the State of California.
-Current and valid Basic Cardiac Life Support certificate from the American Heart Association.
-Certification in speciality such as Med/Surg or other applicable certification.
-Full command (written and verbal) of the English language.
-Must possess minimum computer competency comprised of a working knowledge of Windows or comparable system specifically including keyboarding and mouse skills and applicable to individual job duties and expectations, employee must demonstrate competency in use of the applications indicated on the competency checklist.
-Meets clinical criteria and protocol for CNIV.
-Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned clinical nurse level and area.
-Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice.
-Strong and excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
-Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area.
-Demonstrates commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.

Work Experience:
-Minimum of five (5) years or more work experience as a Registered Nurse in acute care setting
-Minimum three (3) years or more in specialty patient care such as Oncology or other specialty.
-Minimum three (3) years or more work experience as a supervisor or Charge Nurse work experience.

Work Environment:
-Must be able to perform assigned duties in a demanding work environment.

Physical Requirements:
-The physical ability and perceptive acuity to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions
