Our world-class, 45-bed, Level III, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) admits nearly 700 infants per year, dedicated to delivering the highest quality care for all newborns, ranging from healthy neonates to sick or premature newborns requiring close observation or intensive care. We are one of the largest in Southern California and unmatched in the United States for its state-of-the-art design and technology.
Part-time schedule will entail two 12-hour day shifts per week.
Summary of Essential Duties:
- Provides and precisely documents nursing process components and relevant interventions for direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner
- Provides experienced care and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures
- Consistently provides comprehensive care services to complex patients, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care
- Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access
- Observes, evaluates and expeditiously alters plans of care based on signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition
- Demonstrates advanced assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics
- Initiates emergency procedures when indicated
- Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds
- Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patient
- Demonstrates leadership, teamwork and actively participates and supports one or more of the following activities areas: Shared Governance-Chair, MD/RN Collaborative-Chair, Preceptor, Mentor, TCAB, Committee, Project, participation in community service activities or other related
- When assigned charge nurse responsibility, coordinates unit activity throughout the shift, initiates chain of command as appropriate
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Current, unrestricted California RN License required
- BLS and NRP certifications from the American Heart Association required
- Specialty certification required (or willing to obtain within one year from start date)
- A minimum of 3 years of acute care nursing experience required, as well as 2 years in a NICU setting
- Current employees are required to be a Clinical Nurse II at CSMC for at least 1 year in order to be considered
- Applicants with more than 1 year but less than 3 years of acute care nursing experience will be considered for Clinical Nurse II
