The Smidt Heart Institute is home to a distinguished team of experts who are setting the bar for cardiovascular care in the United States. The Institute unites 16 centers and programs to diagnose and treat the full spectrum of heart and vascular conditions for all patients, from infants to those with advanced disease. Compassionate care is integrated with an agile research enterprise, giving patients access to pioneering treatments. Led by Eduardo Marbán, MD, PhD, our faculty and attending physicians provide deep expertise across all specialties, including transplantation, stem cell therapy, congenital heart disease, women’s heart health, valve disorders, arrhythmia and hypertension.
Summary of Essential Job Duties:
The Registered Nurse working in the perianesthesia environment as a Clinical Nurse II/III is a professional practitioner, assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care. Work in an extremely fast-paced environment. Skills encompass assessment, diagnosis and evaluation of actual or potential problems that may result from the administration of sedation or anesthesia. The PACU RN provides pre-and post care for the Electrophysiology and Cardiac Catherization patient population. This includes assessment and care in the acute phase and transition to Inpatient (Medical, Monitored or ICU) as well as those for same day discharge.
Responsibilities include: On-call coverage for emergency, nights, weekends with an expected 45 minute response/arrival time.
License/Certification/ Registration Requirements:
Valid California RN License
Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS
CCRN, CVRN, RCIS preferred (New hires will be given one year from date of hire to acquire specialty certification)
Minimum of 2 years Acute Care nursing experience.
1 - 2 years Critical Care experience strongly recommended.
PACU training and experience necessary.
Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned clinical nurse level and area, perioperative nursing.
Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice.
Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
Must be PACU trained to be eligible for CN III qualification, otherwise will be considered CN II.
The physical ability and perceptive acuity to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions. Ability to transport patients and equipment, gurneys, pull and transfer patients from gurney to bed. Able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
