The Project Scientist works independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator to make significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project in any academic discipline. The Project Scientist may be an ongoing member of a research team or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills to a specific research or creative program. Project Scientists are not required to carry out independent research or to develop an independent research reputation and do not have teaching responsibilities. Ordinarily, the Project Scientist title will carry out research or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by a member of the Professorial Series.   

The successful candidate will work under the direct guidance of the ASHI qualified Director of the Laboratory for implementation and validation of novel tests, as well as regulatory compliance related to the laboratory. The candidate will also assist the Director to conduct research within histocompatibility and immunogenetics.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Perform research experiments to improve and validate novel clinical tests.

·       Assist the Director to review and approve test reports, and to analyze, interpret, summarize and compile data.

·       Assist the Director in implementation of new laboratory procedures.

·       May develop, adapt and implement new research techniques and protocols

·       Assist the Director in the oversight of research and development performed in the laboratory, this may include preparation of grant proposals and submissions Not responsible for generating grant funds.

·       Assist the Director in setting quality control and quality assurance policies and assurance of compliance/performance.

·       Assist the Director in managing laboratory activities, including the selection of reagents used in the testing of all specimens.

·       May train and educate laboratory staff

·       May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author


Educational Requirements:

The successful individual must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in immunology, genetics or in related biological science from an accredited institution.

Licenses:

MD or PhD

Experience:

The individual should have at least 2 years full-time post-doctoral laboratory training or experience in immunology, histocompatibility, or related biological science, with productive postdoctoral experience as evidenced by a record of primary and collaborative authorship in peer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized journals. Experience in next generation sequence is a plus, but not necessary.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
Able to sit for extended periods of time.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and use of step ladder or stool.
able to perform required laboratory testing which may require repetitive hand motion.
