Immunogenetics & Transplantation

The HLA and Immunogenetics Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai supports the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program and all of the solid organ transplant programs of Cedars-Sinai. The lab performs serologic, molecular and flow cytometric assays for HLA typing, antibody screening and donor and recipient cross-matching for transplanting solid organs. High-resolution sequencing and engraftment assays are performed for the purposes of bone marrow transplantation.

The Project Scientist will work independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator to make significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project relevant to understanding the role of Blood and Marrow Transplant research and all of the solid organ transplant programs. The Project Scientist will work independently to develop an independent area of research specialization with mentorship from the Comprehensive Transplant Director. Will design experiments, refine techniques, and carry out research in a novel area of investigation. The Project Scientist will participate in administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by the Institute Director.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May assist in preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications and presentations but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
  • May serve as PI for certain grants as approved by supervising member of the Professorial Series.
  • Will prepare results for presentation and publication and work toward generation of career development research funding
  • May develop, adapt and implement new research techniques and protocols
  • Assists in lab experiments.
  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data.
  • Appointees on an academic trajectory will be expected to commit a portion of their time to developing an independent range of research.
  • May lead or train Staff Research Associates and Research Fellows

  • Doctorate Degree (PhD) or highest degree in their field, required.

Experience and Skillset:

  • Completion of postdoctoral appointment in area of specialization. Three (3) years as a post-doctoral fellow, preferred.
  • Knowledge of PI’s area of research specialization - Transplant or Immunology. Demonstrated technical competency in a variety of research techniques and protocols.
