Summary of Essential Job Duties:
Under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator. the Postdoctoral Researcher works independently on research projects in the lab. Conducts research in one or more areas in the lab according to the PI instructions:
 I) Neuroimmune mechanisms of CNS repair and regeneration;
2) Role of monocytes in resisting the pathology\ associated with Alzheimer's disease;
3) Immune-based therapy for Alzheimer's disease; and
4) Retinal pathology in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders for early diagnosis.

The Postdoctoral Researcher works independently and in full cooperation with the Principal Investigator to make significant and creative contributions to a research and/or a project relevant to our laboratory. Under direct supervision of the PI, the Postdoctoral Researcher develops, prepares figures, analyzes data, and writes and submits peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication and grants in support of the laboratory research. The Postdoctoral Researcher orients research laboratory assistants and student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures. Supervises and provides technical support/guidance to all research staff per Pi instructions. Ensures that our laboratory activities are maintained in accordance with CSMC policies and procedures, especially for human and animal studies with approved protocols.

The Postdoctoral Researcher performs a variety of routine and advanced laboratory tasks and procedures to support the objectives of laboratory research projects. The Postdoctoral Researcher develops a high-level skills and technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to our neuroimmunology and Alzheimer's disease (AD) research projects. The Postdoctoral Researcher participates in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, to include. but not limited to; investigation. technical. testing/validation of results. and report findings. The Postdoctoral Researcher keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results. and assist in identifying and troubleshooting of unexpected results. Under the direction of the Pl, the Postdoctoral Researcher works independently on laboratory projects. This includes all aspects, from the designing stage of the experiments to peer-reviewed publications of the results and presentations at relevant national and international scientific conferences.

The Postdoctoral Researcher observes and complies with safety standards and procedures, assists in preparation of data for PI presentation at scholarly activities and meetings, and assists in general laboratory maintenance. Ordinarily, the Postdoctoral Researcher will carry out research or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by a member of the Professorial Series.


Experience:
A Postdoctoral Researcher position, with a strong immunology and aging and/or neuroimmunology and/or ileum-ophthalmology background. will conduct research in the areas of I) Neuroimmune mechanisms of CNS repair and regeneration: 2) Role of monocytes in resisting the pathology associated with Alzheimer's disease: 3) Immune-based therapy for Alzheimer's disease; and 4) Retinal pathology in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders for early diagnosis. Laboratory maintenance: restocking supplies, ordering new products, and management of current inventory. Preparation of buffers, stock reagents. solution. etc. Monitoring and filing liquid nitrogen in cryobiological storage tank. Monitoring the incubator for humidity and CO2 level. Routine and specific laboratory tasks: flow cytometry, PCR, semi- and full-quantitative PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blot, ELISA. Flow cytometry, protein concentration. cell culture techniques. RNA/DNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, microscopy. tissue processing. iinmunohistocheinical staining, cell counting. passaging of cells. monoclonal antibody production from Hybridoma cell lines, animal model handling, tagging for identification and genotyping, etc. Seeking candidates with strong background in both in vitro and in vivo experimentation. Experience working with advanced flow cytometry, western blotting, RT-PCR. immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, immune-based assays, fluorescent microscopy. handling mice and/or rats. live animal procedures, primary cell cultures, recording and analysis of immunological and pathological parameters. and/or behavioral parameters is ideal for this position. The ability to perform proliferation assays and to determine cell viability and cell death in vivo and in vitro is preferred. Background in signal transduction methods are also desired. Excellent knowledge/skill in the following programs is required: Orrice package (Word. PowerPoint, Excel), image processing programs (Photoshop and/or illustrator. NIH Image.1), statistical programs (GraphPad, PRISM) and literature software (Endnote, Adobe Acrobat Pro). Outstanding oral and written communications skills are needed in order to assist in publications. patents. grant writing and other communications needed to support our research projects. Excellent teamwork capacity is required in order to effectively work together with the l'1. the research staff. and collaborators..

Educational Requirements:
Doctorate (Ph.D., D.Sc., M.D. or equivalent from an accredited institution) in the area of Immunology and aging and/or Neuroimmunology and Alzheimer's disease research. Demonstrated significant, original, and creative contributions to a research, program or project in the field of memory disorders.
