Our 886-bed nonprofit, acute, tertiary, teaching Level I trauma center hospital is located in the heart of Los Angeles. The Pharmacy Department has over 450 staff members who provide comprehensive inpatient pharmacy services as well as outpatient services via two cancer centers, outpatient pharmacies and ambulatory care clinics.

Committed to the education and training of pharmacists, students/interns, residents, technicians, and other health care professionals. We are affiliated with several Schools of Pharmacy and offers PGY1 and PGY2 residency programs. The residency and student experiential programs at CSMC continue to grow with every successive year, where over 125 residents have graduated from the accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program since 1985 and more than 200 student rotations are offered at CSMC annually. Recently, CSMC was recognized as “Site of the Year” awards by two major affiliated CA Schools of Pharmacy for providing an exceptional experiential learning environment for their students.

The Ambulatory Pharmacy Associate Director is responsible for the retail pharmacy operations, specialty pharmacy operations, ambulatory clinic pharmacy services, human resources and financial management, new program development and performance improvement. The Associate Director serves as a member of the pharmacy leadership team and collaborates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of services for the Pharmacy Enterprise.

What's this role all about?

  • Supervision of approximately 60 employees
  • Overseeing financial performances of the outpatient pharmacies (both retail and specialty) and their profit margin
  • Management of outpatient pharmacy automation
  • Participation in medical center and medical staff committees and initiatives and implementation, regulatory compliance as well as, quality improvement
  • Expansion of specialty pharmacy program
  • Responsible for the Pharmacotherapy Clinic Services and it’s expansion
  • Expansion of pharmacist presence in the Ambulatory Care Clinics
  • Precepting pharmacy residents and students
  • Coordinate the Hone/Ambulatory Infusion needs to facilitate earlier discharges and/or prevent admissions
  • Evaluation of employee prescription services and PBM alignment

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.  Prefer PharmD

Licenses:

  • Current California pharmacist licensure

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years pharmacy experience/PGY-2 pharmacy administration residency is preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing; walking, bending; reaching, occasional sitting, pushing & pulling, lifting of materials up to 40 pounds for distances to 10 feet.
  • Responsiveness to auditory alarms and communication devices including: telephones, beepers, fire alarms, and mechanical failure alarms.
  • Sufficient mobility to access equipment, patients and other customers.
  • Able to read information on medication labels

Work Environment (work environments, hazards and exposures that may be encountered on the job):

  • Exposure to minimal but constant noise levels.
  • Repetitive hand motions.
  • Some functions may include incidental exposure to hazards associated with preparation of cytotoxic medications.
  • Some functions may require use of protective gear such as gloves and fluid-resistant coats.
