Our 886-bed nonprofit, acute, tertiary, teaching Level I trauma center hospital is located in the heart of Los Angeles. The Pharmacy Department has over 450 staff members who provide comprehensive inpatient pharmacy services as well as outpatient services via two cancer centers, outpatient pharmacies and ambulatory care clinics.

Committed to the education and training of pharmacists, students/interns, residents, technicians, and other health care professionals. We are affiliated with several Schools of Pharmacy and offers PGY1 and PGY2 residency programs. The residency and student experiential programs at CSMC continue to grow with every successive year, where over 125 residents have graduated from the accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program since 1985 and more than 200 student rotations are offered at CSMC annually. Recently, CSMC was recognized as “Site of the Year” awards by two major affiliated CA Schools of Pharmacy for providing an exceptional experiential learning environment for their students.

The float oncology pharmacists at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles will assist in providing clinical care for oncology patients in our inpatient oncology unit and outpatient licensed Cancer Center sites. In addition to providing clinical services to our oncology inpatients, our inpatient oncology pharmacists support our cellular therapy teams (BMT/CAR-T) and provide patient education for chemotherapy. Outpatient oncology pharmacists provide clinical services to our outpatient oncology patients, patient education and oversee sterile compounding activities in our Cancer Center Pharmacies. The float oncology pharmacist also supports our Oncology disease research group guideline development and assists in other supportive care guideline development.

Educational Requirements:

  • Pharm.D. degree or equivalent from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Completion of a PGY1 residency or equivalent practice experience. PGY2 in oncology is preferred.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

  • Current pharmacist licensure in the State of California.
  • BLS certification as outlined in the Pharmacist Responsibilities in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(C.P.R.) and Code Blue Procedure: Pharmacy Policy and Procedure

Experience:

  • Inpatient oncology patient care experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology as related to drug usage
  • Comprehensive knowledge of common disease states and pathologies
  • Ability to comprehend patient medical management plans
  • Ability to assess and apply current pharmacological and biopharmaceutical principles for the selection and use of drug products in a clinical setting to meet the therapeutic needs of a patient
  • Ability to extract pertinent information from the patient or other sources and relate it to the medical management plan
  • Possess the verbal and written communication skills required to fulfill the responsibilities of staff pharmacist
  • Ability to teach and/or serve as a preceptor for training programs
  • Ability to participate in medical emergencies.
  • Ability to prepare drugs for administration and to give advice on IV drug stabilities, compatibilities, usage, and administration
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards relative to Pharmacy Practice
  • Ability adapt to and prioritize workflow
  • Ability to supervise technicians
  • Ability to learn and adapt to the use of automated information systems in daily practice
  • Demonstrated competency in techniques of sterile manufacturing, pharmaceutical calculations, compounding and pharmacokinetics

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing; walking, bending; reaching, occasional sitting, pushing & pulling, lifting of materials up to 40 pounds for distances to 10 feet.
  • Responsiveness to auditory alarms and communication devices including: telephones, beepers, fire alarms, and mechanical failure alarms.
  • Sufficient mobility to access equipment, patients and other customers.
  • Able to read information on medication labels.
