What will you be doing in this role?
As a Outpatient Oncology Clinical Dietitian at the Cedars-Sinai, you will provide nutrition counseling and guidance to patients, from diagnosis to survivorship, to support their individual nutrition needs and treatment goals.
You will conduct and implement complete nutritional assessments using the Nutrition Care Process and evidence-based clinical practice. This includes using critical thinking skills to develop an effective PES statement, an individualized care plan and on-going monitoring and evaluation.
Facilitate patients/family/caregiver/client active participation in establishing nutrition related goals in relation to treatment goals and plan of care.
Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and effectively communicates nutrition recommendations to the care team. Works closely with department leadership to contribute to continuous quality improvement to ensure the provision of quality care. Participate in projects and resource development to support clinical practice. Document care in the medical record.
Contribute to health care team functions through the multidisciplinary care planning processes.
Acts as a junior preceptor for student RD/DTR training programs as needed
Exhibits professionalism in actions and fosters excellence and best practice. Maintains current knowledge of and follows all legislation and licensure requirements. Complies with all medical center and division policies and procedures. Maintains own competencies for the purpose of maintaining registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Engages in ongoing self/professional development to improve knowledge and enhance professional competence
Adheres to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Revised 2012 Standards of Practice in Nutrition Care and Standards of Professional Performance for Registered Dietitians as applicable to the clinical setting. Adheres to the AND code of ethics for the profession of dietetics.
- Bachelor's degree in Dietetics or Nutrition required. MS in field related to job preferred.
- Certification as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission of Dietetic Registration required.
- Prefer current Board-Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) by Commission of Dietetic Registration or obtaining (within 2 years of employment). Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred.
What else we are seeking:
2 or more years experience as a clinical dietitian in an acute hospital working primarily with oncology patients in inpatient and ambulatory setting. A strong knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy, with an emphasis in oncology nutrition. Well-developed skills in assessment, planning, communication, and evaluation. Excellent counseling skills, motivational interviewing, and the ability to relate to a multi-ethnic community and varied learning levels. Good interpersonal skills to establish productive working relationships with physicians and other members of the multi-disciplinary team providing comprehensive patient care. Possesses a working knowledge of Windows, electronic medical record documentation, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation development, e-mail, Internet and data entry and analysis.
