Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
I. Perform exams
A. Performs all exams related to MRI with skill, accuracy and in a timely manner
B. Coordinates all work done in the area surrounding MRI scanner
C. Performs safe administration of contrast and adheres to venipuncture and contrast administration protocols
II. Provides patients with personal services
A. Transports patients into the exam rooms and positions patients appropriately.
B. Assists patients onto the exam tables
C. Must interact positively with patients
D. Must be highly effective in communication with patients
E. Prepares patients for their test
1. Reviews and signs the MRI consent form and MRI screening form
2. Assures patient brings no ferromagnetic objects into the scan room
3. Assures absence of medical conditions, implants, objects and any devices that may make the MRI test contraindicated
4. Explains appropriate procedures to patients
F. Assures patient privacy at all times
G. Attends to patient health care while patient is in the Department
H. Assists in scheduling
I. Assures patient records are private and secure at all times in accordance with HIPAA
J. Adheres to HIPAA polices
III. Helps maintain equipment
A. Authorizes any work to be done on the MRI scanner, as directed by Management.
B. Maintains, organizes and sanitizes room, equipment, and coils on a daily basis
C. Maintains a safe workplace free of clutter
IV. Practices safety measures and radiation techniques to minimize hazards and radiation exposure of patient and staff
A. Operates the MRI equipment using proper MRI safety procedures
B. Evacuates patient properly and follows proper protocols in case of magnet quench
C. Quenches magnet properly when required
D. Monitors cryogen levels and reports to Safety Officer when they are low
E. Follows all Safety Data Sheet procedures in the event of a cryogen quench
F. Prevent non-screened people in department from going beyond MRI zone 3
G. Screens all persons entering the MRI Zone 3 & 4 area appropriately and obtains signatures on appropriate documents
V. Keeps current on MRI techniques with improvement of personal qualification through education programs, conferences, workshops and additional reading materials. Obtains appropriate CME to maintain ACR requirements for MRI
VI. Observes and maintains patient confidentiality
Helps with office and clerical responsibilities, assisting radiologists and referring physicians, filing and locating patient records. May be assigned other duties that will contribute to the efficiency of operations.

Education and/or Experience
Completion of course in Radiologic technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Two years of experience as a MRI Technologist.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
1. Current certification (ARRT) with the American Registry of Radiology Technologist
2. Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) in the State of California
3. ARRT (MR)
4. Current CPR certification
5. Fluoroscopy license
6. GE 1.5T HDXt, Optima 430s Extremity scanner, and musculoskeletal experience preferred
Other Skills and Abilities
A thorough knowledge of MRI principles and MRI safety is required. Radiographic equipment is used in the department and a working knowledge of radiation safety is also required. Must have knowledge of and exercise proper body mechanics. Ability to work well and professionally with others is required. This includes personnel, radiologists, referring physicians, co-workers, administration, patients, and the patient’s guests. Know location of safety data sheets and know how to use the information contained in them. Candidate must be available to work days, evenings and occasional Saturdays.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, is exposed to fumes and airborne particles, at risk of being shocked, and runs the risk of radiation exposure. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud at times.
