Principal Investigator, Debiao Li, PhD, is looking for a MRI Technologist to join the team!

The Li Laboratory specializes in the development of novel MRI techniques to address the research and clinical needs of cardiovascular imaging. Our group has developed and optimized various MRI methods for fast imaging of the heart and blood vessels, including coronary artery MR angiography, atherosclerosis imaging, myocardial perfusion and myocardial blood oxygenation evaluation. Our goal is early detection and characterization of heart disease using magnetic resonance imaging.

The MRI technologist for the Biomedical Imaging Research Institute (BIRI) performs at an advanced level to support the clinical and research activities for the Imaging Core and the BIRI faculty. Demonstrates advanced knowledge, makes complex research/technical judgments, and is competent in the field of certification. He/She will demonstrate continuous self-improvement, make effective contributions to section, and serve as a role model for peers, students, other staff members and may serve as a student preceptor. Actively stays abreast of new technology, protocol updates, plans/coordinates multiple activities, and adapts to workplace changes. He/She will demonstrate the ability to provide quality subject care for both animals and humans and perform all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the age, developmental issues of the subject populations(s) being served and effectively communicate/explain procedures. May perform procedures on the neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population. He/She will keep records of studies and scanner down time and loss of revenue. Additional duties may include general and administrative support functions necessary for routine operations. Adheres to Cedars-Sinai Health System Corporate Compliance Plan, Code of Conduct, IRB and IACUC policies, departmental policies and procedures, and complies with Job Hazard Analysis protocols.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Possesses detailed understanding of MR physics and MR image quality.

  • Performs routine and specialized duties related to MRI imaging of patients and research subjects (human, canine, porcine) according to standard and research protocols and SOP’s. Ability to manipulate scan parameters based on clinical findings, and/or radiologist/ supervisor request.

  • Ability to demonstrate highly developed knowledge of general objectives in MR methodologies and applications, equipment, human anatomy and physiology, computer skills in a hospital environment.

  • Demonstrates analytical abilities to identify and review problem situations, high level of responsibility and independence, flexibility with working hours (including evenings and weekends) to accommodate departmental needs.

  • Maintains equipment, supplies, and work area in accordance with departmental guidelines and expectations; includes imaging QA and minor troubleshooting.

  • Performs computer processing of acquired imaging; demonstrates and maintains working knowledge of imaging processing and software/hardware components.

  • Performs IV placement, administers contrast agents, provides other patient care duties within scope of license.

  • Coordinates studies by retrieving and processing requisitions and data, reviews requests for pertinent information and obtains patient history as needed.

  • Demonstrates ability to recognize serious health emergencies and responds with appropriate action, is aware of contraindications of testing.

  • Demonstrates professional maturity in all interactions with patients, research subjects, and staff.

  • Performs research duties (e.g., protocol planning/development, scanning, completing forms, informed consent, etc) according to good clinical practices (GCP), regulations, institutional policies, and IRB/HIPAA.

  • Maintains accurate, comprehensive, and timely documentation of all activities.


Experience we are looking for:

  • Four (4) years’ experience in a senior capacity in an acute clinical setting with cardiac and MR spectroscopy experience, preferred.

  • Proficient in QA/QC applications.

Education requirements:

  • Graduated from an accredited school.

Certification/License requirements:

  • A valid State of California certification, ARRT(R), ARRT (N) or CNMT, CPR certification, venipuncture (section specific) and any other job related certifications.

  • BCLS certification, required

  • California Radiologic Technology (CRT)
