Cedars-Sinai Investment Office manages approximately $3 billion in assets (the 'Portfolio') on behalf of Cedars-Sinai. The Portfolio is an intergenerational financial resource to support current and future operating and capital needs at Cedars-Sinai. The Office is responsible for developing and executing an investment strategy that will achieve the investment objectives set forth in the Board-approved investment policy.

The Investment Office spends significant time identifying and cultivating relationships with firms and managers that can add value to Cedars-Sinai's portfolio and help achieve targeted return objectives. The office's due diligence efforts focus on qualitative and quantitative research at both the asset class level and the individual firm/manager level.

Cedars-Sinai's Investment Policy target asset allocation is designed to grow and/or enhance long-term purchasing power. The portfolio is broadly diversified, with allocations to domestic and international equity and fixed income securities, marketable alternative assets (Hedge Funds, Credit-focused strategies), and non-marketable alternative assets (Privates).

The Managing Director, Public Investments, reports to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), and provides senior level oversight of the public investment portfolio to support current and future operating and capital needs of Cedars-Sinai. This leader participates in developing and executing an investment strategy to achieve the objectives set forth in the Board-approved investment strategy and oversees a team of investment professionals. 

Under general guidance of the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), provides oversight of the public investment portfolio including sourcing, construction, due diligence, risk management, negotiations, monitoring and reporting.

Formulates investment guidelines, due diligence processes and establishes risk parameters.

Manager selection (i.e., sourcing, investment due diligence, preparation of recommendation and execution). 

Monitors existing manager relationships, exposures and attends annual meetings. Identifies and cultivates relationships with external firms and managers that can add value to Cedars-Sinai’s portfolio and support achievement of targeted return objectives. 

Reports on the portfolio’s status and direction through written materials and by directly interfacing with the investment teams and senior management as appropriate.

Conducts portfolio analytics, liquidity projections, pacing and performance reporting. Conducts qualitative and quantitative research at both the asset class level and the individual firm/manager level.

Recruits, manages, trains and mentors mid- and/or junior-level investment personnel. 

Works with the CIO on a total portfolio level and sub-portfolio level to report on asset allocation, exposure measurement, performance attribution, liquidity monitoring and risk management. 

Works collaboratively and continuously engages all members of the Investment team to provide independent, rigorous insights on potential decisions across the portfolio, including those not under their direct responsibility. 

Builds the team’s reputation for professional excellence and credibility both inside Cedars-Sinai and throughout the investment community.


Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Finance, Economics or related field, preferred.

Licenses/Certificates/Registration Requirements: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), preferred.

Experience:

10 years: Sourcing and investing in public markets managers, co-investments and direct investments, minimum.

10 years: Investment management experience at a $2 billion plus Endowment, Foundation, Family Office or other sophisticated investment platform, preferred. 

5 years: Previous distinction of asset class head or lead managing a team focused on public investments with an established network of investment contacts and manager relationships, preferred.
