Essential Job Summary:
The Lead Craft Specialist, HVAC and HVAC preventive maintenance installs, inspects, operates and repairs major heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. Supervises, sets priorities and handles multiple projects or assignments and meets completion schedules within established time frames. Performs preventive maintenance. Uses various hand tools and testing instruments to accomplish assigned tasks. Takes an active leadership role in quality control, training and development and implementation of the department objectives. As appropriate, provides directions and gives assistance to Craft Specialists and Senior Craftworkers. Performs other related duties as required.
Completion of high school or an equivalent trade school with related specialty or a comparable level of education and experience is required. A minimum of 2 years at an apprentice level of the craft or trade is required. Able to read blueprints and schematics. Electrical and mechanical background is required. Progressively responsible experience demonstrating ability to supervise, set priorities and handle multiple projects or assignments and meet completion schedules within established time frames. Hospital experience preferred. Must read, write, speak English and be able to read training documents. Thorough knowledge and experience on drawing schematics, laying out work, trouble shooting of equipment and machinery is required. Supervisory or Foreman’s experience is an asset for this position.
Hold EPA Universal License.
Familiarity with the trade work of the areas of responsibility. Experience with simulate tasks and responsibilities in a hospital. Progressively responsible experience demonstrating ability to supervise, set priorities and handle multiple projects or assignments and meet completion schedules within established timeframes. Hospital experience preferred.
Physical Requirements (physical abilities essential to perform the job):
This position requires a great deal of walking and standing.
Must be able to push equipment carts and move job-related equipment.
Must be able to lift fifty to eighty (50 - 80) pounds, stoop, bend and work in different positions for extended periods of time.
Work Environment (work environments, hazards and exposures the employee may encounter on the job):
Be able to tolerate heat, noise, dust, smoke, unpleasant odors, and chemicals. Must be adept at handling themselves in potentially dangerous situations and areas. Must be able to stay alert at all times, even during extended hours and at night. Must be available to provide uninterrupted watches and unscheduled overtime.
