Summary of Essential Job Duties

The Director of Volunteer Services has the overall responsibility of managing the staff and ensuring the effective coordination of volunteer activities/services as provided by staff members in the Volunteer Services Department. In this capacity the Director must plan, develop, implement and monitor the volunteer programs for effective utilization of volunteer resources.   The Director is responsible for ensuring that the staff effectively integrate the volunteers into the services and that patients receive quality and safe patient experience. 

 

The Director is responsible for the development and implementation of business and division operations plans, accountable for quality and safe service, expense control and effective management of capital and human resources for all the services within the division. The Director is also responsible for the effective operation of the Employee Volunteer Program, providing opportunities for Cedars-Sinai staff to volunteer in the community.

 

A thorough knowledge of the community is important, both for the successful recruitment of hospital-based volunteers and to identify viable community-based opportunities at which employees can volunteer. Being highly skilled to work effectively with variety of constituencies and to lead and manage through influence is a must in this role; superior presentation skills in a one-on-one or group setting is needed to be successful in this position.

 

The Director has the responsibility that the volunteer department staff are meeting the Joint Commission requirements when training and providing orientation to volunteers, and that the administration of health clearances and documentation of volunteer records (i.e. appraisals, job descriptions, etc.) are in compliance with organizational and Joint Commission requirement.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or Master's Degree in related field is preferred. High School Diploma is minimum.

 

 

 

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

No license or certification is required for this position.

 

Experience

 

  • 5 years’ experience in a management and leadership role in Hospital Administration.

 

 

  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale employee volunteerism programs.
