We are currently hiring a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to expertly turn around test results while maintaining quality. While the patient experience is our ultimate goal, you will play an active role in patient care by quickly and thoroughly providing results for our providers. Responsibilities include performing routine and technically complex laboratory tests and analyses requiring well developed cognitive and problem-solving skills. The CLS's activities include operating and maintaining test equipment, monitoring and evaluating quality of testing, and verifying and reporting test results. These moderate and high complexity tests will require you to bring your well-developed cognitive, manipulative, and problem-solving abilities to the lab every single day.
As a member of the Blood Bank you will performs all standardized testing such as ABO, Rh, Ab screen, antibody identification, cord blood work-ups, cross match, direct coombs, eluate, antigen typing etc. Familiar with Gel technology both manual and automated (Vision). You will login specimens, issue blood components, take inventory, order blood components from suppliers, thaw plasma and cryoprecipitate, pool cryoprecipitate. In addition, you will send blood components to the patient care areas via the pneumatic tube system and monitors delivery of by pneumatic tube. Additional duties include making blood components from whole blood, leukocyte reduce blood, irradiate blood components, split and pool blood components, freeze and wash red blood cells for transfusion. You will track cooler perform, conduct inventory reconciliation, and ordering and stocking supplies. You will login and issue bone and tissues to the operating rooms as needed, pack bone and tissues on dry ice and perform inventory reconciliation of bone and tissues. As well as, process, freeze, thaw and handle cellular therapy products in the stem cell lab. Perform RBC molecular testing in transfusion medicine to determine donor and/or patients RBC phenotype/genotype and train and rotate in the stem cell processing lab.
Baccalaureate Degree in a biological science, chemistry, medical technology, or related science.
Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or limited license in Immunohematology required.
Prefer MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or equivalent.
Zero to one years experience clinical laboratory experience required.
Prefer prior blood bank/transfusion service work experience in a transfusion service in a large tertiary care hospital preferred.
Knowledge of cGMP’s governing Registered and Licensed Blood Establishments preferred.
Must be able to accurately perform multiple tasks in a fast paced environment while maintaining good customer relations.
Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians and other customers.
Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
