Tell Me about the role:

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist III (CLS III) functions with minimal direction from supervisory personnel. Responsibilities include performing routine and technically complex laboratory tests and analyses requiring advanced cognitive, manipulative and problem solving skills. The CLS III's activities include operating and maintaining test equipment, monitoring and evaluating the quality of testing, verifying and reporting test results, and resolving technical and quality control problems. Additional duties include general and administrative support functions necessary for the routine operation of the laboratory. Performs all job duties with sensitivity to the patient population(s) being served. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs routine and technically complex laboratory tests requiring well-grounded interpretative skills using approved procedures and protocols according to experienced level standards for work speed, organization, precision and accuracy. 
• Operates, calibrates, and maintains lab equipment and instrumentation used in routine and complex clinical testing. 
• Provides for the appropriate educational experience of clinical laboratory interns/residents assigned to the division.
• Special projects or assignments. (List or describe) 
• Reviews and ensures reliability of results personally performed and checks other analysts’ work based on quality control and assurance mechanisms, specimen integrity, known clinical history or delta checks, and takes corrective action as necessary. 
• Uses established quality assurance protocols to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents and analytical procedures including assaying appropriate standards and controls, performing instrument function verifications and recording control data. 
• Reviews new and existing policies and procedures according to established protocols. 
• Performs phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture and capillary puncture; uses proper technique in accordance with SOPs. 
• Follows Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)

Education required:
Baccalaureate degree in a clinical laboratory science, medical technology or related science required.

License required:
Valid clinical laboratory scientist license issued by the State of California

Experience required:
Experience in FISH assays and molecular procedures
