Associate Director, Research and Finance

Summary of Essential Job Duties:
The Associate Director of Research and Finance for the Departments of OBGYN and Pediatrics, is responsible for administrative oversight of all operations and academic finance processes, and both basic science and clinical research, including clinical trials. He/she is responsible for the daily twenty-four (24) hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations of assigned areas, in order to meet the needs of all customers and support of Medical Center philosophies. Responsible for the financial management of OBGYN and Pediatrics Departments including budgets, faculty practice plans management, financial reporting and other functions necessary for the efficient operations of these Departments and other departments under the direction of the Executive Director (eg Rehab). The Associate Director assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, serves as liaison with medical staff and other personnel, promotes the maximum growth and development of each employee, supports research, participates in strategic planning, both long and short term, and assures patient advocacy. The Associate Director is accountable to the Executive Director and has a dotted —line relationship to the Chairs of OBGYN and Pediatrics. The Associate Director guides staff in meeting customer's needs consistent with the Medical Center's philosophy, mission, vision and strategic plan and The Plan for Provision of Patient Care, The Performance Improvement Plan and Professional Organization Standards. He/she maintains competency skills including the ability to interact with customers with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Requirements:
 A Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree in Public Health, Public administration, or Business is highly recommended. Prior experience in research is a plus
A minimum of five to seven years of experience working in a collaborative and supportive fashion with M.D. and Ph.D faculty in an academic environment.
Demonstrated management experience in the healthcare finance and research environments.
Demonstrated research experience which includes working with an IRB and IACUC.
Proven ability to lead and manage people including selecting, developing, motivating and retaining people who meet unit objectives.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills to write business communications, make groups presentations, and effectively impart information at staff meetings.
Grant writing skills and awarded/funded projects preferred.  
Fiscal management skills to prepare, monitor and control academic and operations budgets and oversee research budgets: reduce expenses and generate increased revenues.
Ability to promote effective collaboration and teamwork among individuals of multiple disciplines and across organizational boundaries.
Knowledge of regulatory, reimbursement, legal and policy issues as they relate to effective unit management.
Knowledge of the principles of CQI and ability to apply these principles including PDSA to improve unit work.
