What will I be doing in this role?
As a member of the professional management staff in Cedars-Sinai's Division of Advancement, the Associate Director, Donor Relations is responsible for the comprehensive management and long-term donor engagement strategic plan. You will ensure donor retention, increased giving and support long-term philanthropic relationships for the larger Health System and its affiliates. Responsible for the management, timely implementation and assessment of a comprehensive Donor Relations program. This includes donor reporting, recognition and engagement guidelines, recognition events, donor signage, giving opportunity inventories, benefits, specialized stewardship plans, acknowledgments, customized leadership correspondence, related stewardship communications and maintenance and execution of donor intent. The Associate Director is involved in the planning, and execution of strategic initiatives that will impact the business unit and the organization. Works with the Director of Donor Services and other partners on Health System-wide stewardship activities and strategies, campaign initiatives and special projects. Will directly manage a multi-person team. Will work closely with physicians, researchers, medical and community leadership, and frontline development officers. Will interface and provide direction to other intra-department teams to help create a donor-centric culture.

Collaborates with the Director on the strategy, planning, and execution of a comprehensive Donor Relations program to support the expanding CS Health System.
Responsible for the effective management and implementation of all donor relations programs. This includes: donor reporting, recognition and engagement guidelines, recognition events, donor signage, giving opportunity inventories, benefits, specialized stewardship plans, customized acknowledgments, tailored leadership correspondence, related stewardship communications and maintenance and execution of donor intent.
Develops, maintains and evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of the donor relations programs. Also ensures that current and future protocols are documented and adhered to, including annual budget creation and tracking.
Leads the development of highly personalized engagement plans for Cedars-Sinai’s most generous donors. Seeks opportunities to team up with frontline fundraising staff to develop customized stewardship touches to advance cultivation, solicitation and relationship-building strategies.
Develops strategies for new recognition and giving opportunities (capital and programmatic). Oversees the maintenance and tracking of all activities and inventories, ensuring alignment across the organization. Work with Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction (FPDC) on all recognition projects and signage. Coordinates the accurate production and execution of donor renderings and signage.
Collaborates with development communication stakeholders on all stewardship communication strategies and projects. Ensures donors are recognized for their giving and provided with impactful communication and storytelling. This is conveyed in a way that is understandable and exciting, identifying what is meaningful to donors and addressing the underlying motivations that fuel giving and inspire long-term support.
Produces and reviews financial reports from PeopleSoft for donor gift tracking, compliance and accountability ensuring faculty is spending donor funds appropriately. Work with Finance, Office of Research Administration (ORA), Academic Affairs, and the service-line administrators to address and resolve any challenges.
Collaborates with Academic Affairs/Office of the Dean to track endowed chairs, endowed fellowships, endowed professorships, and other academic appointments that are donor funded. Ensures Donor Relations has the correct listings, appointment status, and provides confirmation memos to faculty on donor requirements.
Assesses through quantitative and qualitative analysis the metrics associated with donor experience to enhance and revise programs and activities related to critical initiatives. Develops stewardship and recognition metrics within team KPI program. Evaluates opportunities to capture donor self-identified interests and other data to enhance donor engagement activities. Leads list segmentation, reporting and tracking to assist with recognition, engagement and stewardship projects and special fundraising initiatives. Coordinates implementation of stewardship plans in donor database.
Develops staffing plan to ensure appropriate staff level based on department needs. Responsible for hiring, maintaining and improving competencies, and staff development to increase their skills and knowledge. Conducts performance reviews, disciplinary actions and action plans. Use RE7 conscientiously to track donor relations programs and correspondence sent to donors.
- 5 years professional experience in fundraising and development with progressive responsibility required.
- Frontline development experience preferred.
- 5 years previous experience working in a complex academic healthcare environment preferred.
- Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred.
